call for sponsors cross country yoga school bus journey

The Yoga School Bus is a 77 person school bus that has been converted into a yoga studio on wheels.

Yoga is only practiced in the bus when it's parked.

The mission of the Yoga School Bus is to provide a safe space for children and adults to practice meditation and yoga.

Part of the appeal of this project is it's ability to turn the world upside down for a child (mindfully & physically) taking a universal symbol of transportation and transforming it into a novelty.  Bringing a bit of magic into a child's life while it provides them with the lessons of yoga and meditation to learn how to 'feel good' within themselves.

The Yoga School Bus is embarking on it's first cross country tour. The mission is to bring yoga to underserved communities where yoga is not practiced around every corner. There will be various stops. Some affiliated, some random, full of yoga instruction & plenty of fun.

•This is a service minded project, we like to think of it as 'operation: feel good do good'

The success and reach of this project is contingent on the contributions and generous donations of our sponsors- the possibility & impact of this journey is endless for all involved. All funds go towards keeping the bus moving forward.

Space is available on the bus for logos & sponsor advertisement.

why yoga school bus?
2 reasons! For the last 4 years I was teaching yoga and meditation to inner city kids. We had so much fun. A labor of love for sure! We all thrived in the safe space (of the class room or gym) that we cultivated together. Social groups, insecurities & trying to be or look cool went out the window during class...But once they left the room to get a drink of water or go get something from their locker, I lost them. I lost the sweetness, the softness and the genuine contentment they were re-discovering within themselves (it was always there). We sat and talked one day after svasana (final resting pose) and they were real receptive to this idea of a yoga school bus. They loved it.

And now a tale from long ago: my dad had a friend in the 80's who converted a school bus into a camper. It was pink & he had a lazy boy reclining chair for a drivers seat. Blew my mind & I've never been the same :)

My beauty of a yoga school bus is tucked away for the next 3 months of winter & I already kind of miss her. It's high time for me to rally, work, rally & work some more to fund this project for the 2012 school year.

I am so thankful for all of the support this project has received thus far!
thank you thank you x a thousabillion.

Getting out of my own way

So!
I've been in my own way. So pathetic. so true. Little bumps & obstacles got the better of me and I allowed myself to get distracted by shiny things (very barracuda of me). It reminds me of that great quote by Randy Pausch: The brick walls are there for a reason. The brick walls are not there to keep us out; the brick walls are there to give us a chance to show how badly we want something. The brick walls are there to stop the people who don't want it badly enough.

But, I'm back. The background details have been quelled and satisfied and I am officially out of my own way. It's all yoga. All the time. I knew this was a lesson- but we are all so good at self talking ourselves into corners and ruts.

The bus is purple, the roof is white ( a trick we just recently picked up from the south to keep it cooler in the summer- file under: what took us so long to realize that one?) The seats are gone and the floors will be placed next week.

There is this amazing/scary aspect to doing this all by yourself. Especially when people ask you that ever- present- invasive -question "what to you do?" I realized many years ago that telling people that I pretty much do weird projects in my room and write a lot of poems isn't the answer they seek- so thank goodness for this yoga life! I am so lucky that I get to teach & practice & teach & practice...

This project has given me this gifted albeit always nerve wracking interaction- of first telling someone what I'm up to. It goes like this:

I tell them. There's silence. I think 'oh my goodness can I just pull my words back- there is no way this person will get what I am scheming with this yoga studio on wheels project, this is just one of my absurdo ideas that only 10% of the population gets & grasps' and then like magic- they smile and tell me how cool it is- or what a great idea it is- insert compliment here, It happens every time- and every time it affects me the same awesome way.

So, yeah, moving forward. Literally. Yay!

Status:
the bus is purple, gutted & getting registered today. hurray hurrah hurray.
finally found an insurance company to underwrite it.

next up is kickstarter fund raising- so be prepared for me asking you to link the link to the link to the link (to the link).

yoga school bus is happening!

Hi There,
Welcome to my yoga school bus project. I recently purchased (with the help of my amazing cousin) a 71 person school bus and am in the process of transforming it into a yoga studio on wheels. I want yoga & mindful instruction to be accessible and available to anyone, in any area, at any time.

The bus will provide a comfortable & safe space to practice meditation & yoga at any level. My favorite niche will most likely be middle schools & youth centers, but the bus is large enough for adults and corporations to take advantage of my services.

I've been teaching yoga for a few years now & studied my 200 hour teacher training with Taylor & Philippe Wells in Cambridge, Ma. Even during teacher training I kind of knew that my bus idea would happen, I just didn't really know when.

For now, this blog will serve as my website and my contact info is yogaschoolbus@gmail.com
feel free to contact me with any questions or comments.
